Worship
Collective worship is an expression of our Christian vision. Our regular Christian ‘welcoming’ shows the children our Christian identity and how our school lives because of our values and vision. Following a liturgical pattern, every worship follows the structure of gather, engage, respond and send. Every worship begins with children entering to music, and the three candles are lit to represent the Trinity and to welcome the class to worship .The set-up of the table at the front of our hall has the relevant liturgical colours of the cloth and the presence of the Bible. Throughout the year we follow aspects of Christian calendar.
Via use of the Roots and Fruits books we are able to deliver our collective worship sessions in a way that caters for different learning styles. Teachers are encouraged to relate the biblical stories to real life situations that our pupils and their families may face at home and in school. The use of Picture News also helps pupils to consider the plight of others across the globe.

Our Worship Council
The worship council consists of four children from the Year 6 classes. They deliver interfaith greetings as well as welcoming everyone to worship as they arrive. They also take photographs, prepare the table at the front and evaluate worship within school. This is an extremely popular role which many children in the school would like to do.
Prayer
At St George’s CE Academy Newtown, we believe that prayer and reflection is an important part of spiritual development for everyone in our school community. We create opportunities to reflect and pray that are invitational; and allow our children to be authentic to their family and personal beliefs.
As part of our daily routines, and in collaboration with the Huda Centre, we provide opportunity to pray at these following times of the day.

Class worship
Class worship takes place twice a week and is an opportunity for class teachers to build on the theme for the whole school collective worship. Teachers are encouraged to relate the biblical stories to real life situations that our pupils and their families may face at home and in school.
The use of Picture News also helps pupils to consider the plight of others across the globe.
Each class has a collective worship book to gather pupil responses either verbally, written or through pictures.
Interfaith Week
As part of our RE curriculum, our children take part in Interfaith week. The aim of this is for our children’s awareness of the different and distinct faith communities within the UK increases, and celebrate their contributions to neighbourhoods and to the wider society. Additionally this also builds on our British Value focus for this half-term which is tolerance.
Visits to a variety of religious buildings, meeting and interacting with people in our community, sharing knowledge and information first hand s of various cultures, promotes respect, inclusivity and compassion towards all people regardless of background, religion or culture.
This year, each year group will be exploring a different faith which will also include a visit to their place of worship during week beginning 7 – 11th November.
